The Montclair district of Denver is bounded by I-70 to the north, Colorado Boulevard to the west, Havana Street to the east, and Leetsdale Drive to the south. It consists of 15 neighborhood parks and 15 miles of dedicated parkway. As of 2003, Montclair’s population was 5,277 with 2,698 households.

Originally called the Montclair Town and Improvement Company, the city was established in 1885 by Baron von Richthofen and developer Matthias P. Cochran. Cochran named the city after his hometown of Montclair, New Jersey. While Montclair yielded many charms, one of the primary attractions to the area was its height, sitting more than 330 feet above Denver, providing its residents with spectacular views.

Initially, Montclair was considered a haven for its residents, but access to jobs, services and entertainment was limited. To satisfy the needs of the fledgling community, the Denver Tramway Company build four streetcar lines, and the first horse drawn line began in 1887. The Montclair district became the home to the oldest neighborhood association in Denver, forming the Historic Montclair Community Association in 1907.
