Although it did not incorporate until 1890, the city of Littleton, Colorado was established in 1859 when the “Pikes Peak” gold rush brought settlers to the area. In addition to those seeking their fortune in gold, farmers and merchants moved westward to provide essentials to the townsfolk. As the town grew, it became necessary for water to be more easily transported to those without ready access to nearby rivers and creeks. One of the engineers contracted to develop such a system was Richard Sullivan Little for whom the town would eventually be named.

Since the town’s early days, Littleton has grown to 13.5 square miles with a population of 41,324. It is located 5,389 feet above sea level, has approximately 150 miles of streets and 35 miles of bikeways and trails. While the town’s earliest employers were agricultural in nature, the town has evolved into a site for electronics, munitions, aerospace and manufacturing over the years.

One well-known feature of Littleton is its charming and historic downtown area, which is the proud home to beautifully restored, turn-of-the-century buildings. With its quaint, tree-lined streets, Littleton contains a five block historic district with cafés, gift shops, family diners and galleries. On one end of the downtown sits an art school and community college, while the library and a popular fondue restaurant grace the other end.

Located along the South Platte River , Littleton is in close proximity to two Colorado State Parks – Roxborough and Chatfield. Both of these beautiful state parks offer trails, boating, open space, and scenic views. Adjacent to the river sits South Platte Park, a beautiful, public open space that features a nature and education center and is a popular spot for bird watchers. Those looking for small town appeal with the convenience of a metropolitan area will not be disappointed!

Recent home sales in Littleton ranged from $177,500 to $1,645,000 with averages of 1,949 square feet and an average sales price of $380,536.
