The neighborhood of Highland extends from Lowell Boulevard on the west to Zuni Street on the east and from West 38th Avenue south to West 25th Avenue. Originated in 1858, this historic center city area overlooks downtown and is one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods. In the 1890’s Highland was the home for many American immigrants and today is rich in the ethnic traditions of Italian, Mexican, German and Irish families who settled here.
The area is also architecturally very diverse but classic Craftsman bungalows and restored Queen Anne Victorians are extremely popular with many home buyers. The recent development in Highland has also put real estate values here on the rise. New condo projects are under construction and gentrification in some areas is moving at breakneck speed. Residents still however enjoy quick access to I-25 and a neighborhood character which is very distinct from that of downtown Denver.
Approximately 9,500 people live in Highland and residents here enjoy a wide range of housing options. Row houses, duplexes, apartments, Victorian mansions and 1950’s-style single family homes are all available in this resurgent urban neighborhood. Highland is also known for several unique commercial districts. The area around 32nd and Lowell is one popular stop for specialty food stores, bookstores, ethnic restaurants and coffee shops.
Recent single family home sales in Highland ranged from $115,500 to $480,000 with averages of 1,220 square feet and an average sales price of $255,052.
